High staff morale is the life-blood of any successful organisation because it refers to the cheerfulness, confidence and achievement motivation of the staff that, in turn, affects the quality of the job performed.
Find out what staff need to improve their personal comfort and productivity and, where applicable, undertake to have these needs met.
Provide opportunities for staff and their families to meet on a social basis. This will get people to know and understand each other better.
Involve staff in decision making. They will then feel ownership of the decision and will be committed to its execution.
Refer to departments as teams and encourage members to see themselves as important parts of a functioning group. Use ‘we’ instead of ‘I’ when talking about things to be done.
Make sure that your staff have all the necessary information to function effectively.
Not only is performance important for staff, but also the comfort that there is a coach available when help is needed.
Reprimand Where Necessary
Let the staff know where they stand in their performance. If they need to be reprimanded, do it. However, don’t dwell on negative behaviour.
Flexible staff will try other approaches until they succeed.
