OFFICE SHUT-DOWN CHECKLIST

Nothing spoils your first day back at work from your well-deserved December holiday than the flooding of the office kitchen or bathroom, foul smells emerging from fridge, bathrooms or dustbins. 

If your offices are shutting down for the Christmas holidays, you may want to consult this checklist to make sure that when you walk back in January, it is not with unpleasantness that could have been avoided.

 

Reception

  • Air conditioning switched off
  • Shut-down message recorded and uploaded on telephone management system and tested to make sure it works
  • Telephone diverted if necessary
  • Dishes cleared from client waiting area
  • Client waiting area tidy, all old magazines/newspapers cleared away and books neatly stacked
  • Blinds closed
  • Alarm activated

Boardrooms

  • Air conditioning switched off
  • Dishes cleared from the boardroom
  • Windows closed and secured
  • Blinds drawn
  • Chairs neatly pushed in

Open-plan offices

  • Air conditioning switched off
  • Dishes cleared from desks/water jugs emptied
  • Confidential papers filed and locked away
  • Tidy desks and all necessary files and papers neatly stacked
  • Chairs neatly pushed in
  • Dustbins emptied
  • Windows closed and secured
  • Blinds drawn
  • Desk plants removed/sufficiently watered for the closing period

Closed offices

  • Air conditioning switched off
  • Dishes cleared from desks/water jugs emptied
  • Confidential papers filed and locked away
  • Tidy desks and all necessary files and papers neatly stacked
  • Chairs neatly pushed in
  • Dustbin emptied
  • Windows closed and secured
  • Blinds drawn
  • Desk plants removed/sufficiently watered for the closing period
  • Doors closed/locked as deemed necessary

Kitchen/Canteen

  • Air conditioning switched off
  • All dishes clean and packed in the cupboards
  • Dishwashers emptied and doors left open to dry interior
  • Chairs neatly pushed in
  • Dustbin emptied
  • Foodstuff cleared from the fridges
  • Coffee machines switched off
  • Sugar bowls emptied to avoid ants
  • Windows are closed and secured
  • Blinds are drawn
  • Floors swept
  • Ensure taps are closed

Bathrooms

  • Bins emptied
  • Ensure taps are closed
  • Toilets flashed
